Waratah Throws & Blankets |
| Throws and Blankets in Mohair and
Merino Wool |
|
The most beautiful blankets, throws
and travel rugs all come from one place - the fleece of Australian
Merino sheep. It's the natural starting point for Waratah to produce
beautiful ways to help you create the home you want. |
|
NEW! Made in Tasmania, Australia from pure, unbleached, natural fibers. As nature's best insulator, wool will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. Better still it is both soft and resilient and is everyone's natural choice for quality. Waratah does not use bleaching agents or chemicals that could harm the environment or your family and all Waratah blankets and throws are light, warm, naturally fire resistant and perfect for everyday luxury that lasts year after year. Both Wool and Mohair are renewable natural resources that will last for generations.
Luxury mohair throws and blankets from Waratah feel like heaven and come in a delicious spectrum of colors, plains and patterns that no one else matches. Please allow an extra 3 - 4 days for processing. |

What makes
Waratah earth friendly?
-
All of Waratah products are manufactured from
100% natural components, and are therefore fully biodegradable.
-
Waratah’s hot water and steam are supplied by a small on-site boiler
which burns clean poppy-seed oil and therefore does not produce the high
level of particulate emissions which are standard to an oil-fired boiler
which runs on dirty fuels such as crude or bunker oil. The poppy-seed oil
is a natural by-product of Tasmania’s opiate poppy industry.
-
Reject cloth and blanket off-cuts are either sold as seconds or pieces
through Waverley’s factory shop or are ragged and broken up so that they
can be run back through the process to manufacture welfare blankets for
organizations such as the Salvation Army.
-
Waste wool flock (fluff) which is a by-product of the dry finishing
raising process is collected and sold to a business which on-sells it as
housing insulation.
As detailed in the previous two points, all by-products of our process
are either re-used or sold.
-
Waratah does not generate any landfill waste in our
processing.
-
All waste cardboard and paper is collected in designated bins and
recycled off-site.
-
Waratah operates under strict trade waste agreement with the local
government, holding operating permits which restrict our wastewater
contaminant levels and volume to the lowest possible level. We therefore
rigorously avoid the use of chemicals such as bleaches, formaldehyde or
other toxins which may contravene this agreement.
-
Electricity to our mill is generated from Tasmania’s hydroelectric
scheme, which generates power which flows from water catchments in the
Central Highlands. This water then flows into dams and rivers to supply
community drinking water and agricultural irrigation.
